Frequently Asked Questions
Who made this app?
This app was independently developed by Shingo Kumagai, a seminary student in Japan. After struggling to memorize the Hebrew letters himself, he built it in hopes of helping others with the same challenge. For the full story, see How Alefbet Dojo Began.
Is it free? Will it stay free?
Yes β completely free. There are no paid features or subscriptions. The app is built on the principle of "free for everyone learning Hebrew," and it's intended to stay that way.
Do I need to create an account?
No account needed. Just open it in your browser and start. Your settings and progress are saved only on your device and are never sent to a server.
Is any personal data collected?
Your quiz scores and settings are stored only on your device. No personal information (such as your name or email address) is collected, so your results stay private unless you choose to share them. The app uses Google Analytics to collect anonymous usage statistics. See the Privacy Policy for details.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes, it works on smartphones, tablets, and computers. No installation required β just open it in your browser.
Which quiz should I start with?
The quizzes on the home screen are listed in the recommended order. Work through them from top to bottom, and aim for the π 30-Second Challenge as your final goal.
Can I use it for classes or church?
Absolutely. Feel free to use it in seminaries, churches, Bible study groups, or any educational or ministry setting β no permission needed. See the Terms of Use for details.
Can I read the Bible in Hebrew just by learning the letters?
To read Hebrew, you'll also need vocabulary and grammar β not just the letters. That said, being able to read the script transforms the experience of engaging with the original text. Build a solid foundation here, then pick up an introductory Hebrew textbook as your next step.
What should I study after this?
Once you've learned the letters and vowel marks, move on to a Hebrew grammar textbook. There are many excellent introductions β choose one that fits your learning style and keep going.
